Man With Alcohol Problems

In the Global Status Report On Alcohol and Health 2019 by the World Health Organisation (WHO) it was recorded that globally an estimated 237 million men and 46 million women have alcohol use disorders, with the highest prevalence of alcohol use disorders among men and women in the European Region.

Britons get drunk more often than everyone else in the world, according to the Global Drug Survey 2019. Britons reported getting drunk an average of 51.1 times in a 12-month period, which accounts for almost once a week.

It can be of little use providing measures to try to improve mental health and well-being – if the causes of poor mental health are not addressed in the first place.

Drinking Work Stress

The use of alcohol..

Alcohol is commonly used be people as a way of dealing with stress and work pressure, because it is perceived to help people relax and switch off, but studies show that even moderate drinking actually increases anxiety in humans.

Many people use alcohol as a crutch for lots of different reasons - and by giving your employees the opportunity to learn to develop other ways to deal with pressure and stress rather than reaching for a drink, will not only equip them with a series of tools to cope with situations as they arise, but it will also increase your employees health and wellbeing long term.

“People are starting to say, ‘I want something different. I want real health, real clarity and real stress relief, and I’m not going to get that from alcohol, but I don’t know how to cut down or stop.’”

The risks..

Many people don’t realise quite how detrimental drinking is to their health and mental well-being, others will recognise that drinking too much is having a negative impact on them but because of the highly addictive nature of alcohol, will not know how to cut down, or will not know how to improve their habit.

You can change this and make a massive difference to your employees lives by making our Freedom From Alcohol Workshop and calendar part of your corporate health and well-being programme.

Drinking is linked with a heightened risk of chronic conditions including liver disease, certain cardiovascular diseases and at least seven different kinds of cancer. And the more you drink, the research suggests, the higher your risk of developing these illnesses. It can only be a good thing to help people place importance on being mindful when it comes to how much they consume and how often.

Making a change..

Our workshop gently educates and addresses the negative impact that alcohol can have and encourages people to become much more mindful of their drinking habits.

The UK Health and Safety Executive (HSE) estimates that 57% of  sick days in 2017/2018 were due to work-related stress, anxiety or depression. In May last year the World Health Organisation (WHO) identified workplace burnout as a global occupational phenomenon.

Our workshop will provide your team with mindful strategies to cope with the stresses and pressures of today’s world, as a better healthier alternative to using alcohol. This new learning of self -care techniques will have a long lasting powerful and positive impact on your staff’s health and well-being.

The power of mindfulness..

Our workshop will encourage your employees to consider how they treat their bodies, and what they put into their bodies, and how that directly effects their mental health and wellbeing, and that includes the use of alcohol. Mindfulness is also recommended by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) as a means of staving off depression.

Providing your staff with the opportunity to learn how to become mindful about alcohol will not only dramatically help your employees to change their drinking habits, but it will also help them to positively improve the rest of their lives as well.

Mindfulness is a technique that teaches you how to become centred and present in your life and how to also step out of unhelpful thinking, unhelpful habits, and rumination and worry.

Mindfulness Practice..

Mindfulness can be adopted as part of everyday life, and by practising the simple exercises we teach in our Freedom From Alcohol workshop, even for only a few minutes each day, can help your employees enjoy more peace, and distance from unhelpful thinking and unhelpful habits.

Science has shown that mindfulness will improve concentration, reduce stress, increase levels of happiness, slow ageing, raise self-awareness, improve health, promote equanimity, and improve acceptance of others.

According to Ariana Huffington the founder and CEO of Thrive Global “Stress-reduction and mindfulness don’t just make us happier and healthier, they’re a proven competitive advantage for any business that wants one.”
